Enshrouded Cinder's Cradle Guide: Access, Levels, Materials and Bosses

By Poodadoo Editors · October 27, 2026

To reach Cinder’s Cradle, upgrade the Flame to Level 10 (this needs the Broken Guard of the North Crown from Cromville plus 16 survivors), then follow the main quest “Land of the Sky Islands” to the Ancient Gate north of Veilwater Basin. Expect level 46 to 48 enemies on the ground and up to level 50 on the Sky Islands. The islands only open after you light all six Beacon dungeons.

Step 1: Flame Level 10

The Flame 9 to 10 upgrade needs these items. Several guides list the same costs, and they match the game data on PinDrop:

ItemAmountWhere it comes from
Spark60
Broken Guard of the North Crown1Throne in the Cromville Throne Room, quest “Crown of Sorrow” (Veilwater Basin)
Gleam Root Dust15Gleam Root ground at the Mill
Piscine Ivory Dust10Fish Teeth or Fish Bones ground at the Mill
Drak Blood30Drak enemies in Veilwater Basin
Shroud Sludge10Crafted at the Alchemist
Daylily30Veilwater Basin, including around Queen Jezmina’s Camp
Survivors16Each needs a bed in a sheltered room

The Crown fragment is the step that blocks most players. One wiki says you reach the throne over the ramparts and may need bombs to get in. We haven’t checked that route ourselves.

Step 2: the Ancient Gate

After the upgrade, the main quest “Land of the Sky Islands” sends you to the Ancient Gate, which sits between Cromville Hot Spring and Lake Luma at the north edge of Veilwater Basin. If you have no Flame Altar nearby, fast travel to the Veilwater Basin Ancient Spire and head north. Once you are through, put down a Flame Altar near the gate. The quest steps are:

  1. Reach the Ancient Gate
  2. Reach the Heart of Cinders
  3. Look around Cinder’s Ascent
  4. Summon the Ancient Researcher and speak to them

The researcher is Loraine Crim, a new survivor who specializes in Ancient knowledge and recipes. Keen’s patch notes describe this survivor without naming them, and the name comes from guide sites. Back at base, Loraine starts “Crafting an Infusion Altar” and “A Gem Forge of Our Own”.

Step 3: the six Beacon dungeons

The floating islands are reached from the teleport platform at Cinder’s Ascent, in the middle of the lower wasteland. That platform only gets power after you finish Loraine’s quest “Activating the Gate to the Stars”. To do that, complete the Beacon dungeon in each older biome: Springlands, Revelwood, Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes, Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin.

These are the long-locked doors in older biomes that Keen mentions in the patch notes (“structures… some of which had players… desperately look for a hidden entrance for years”). The quest log points you to the Springlands one first. G-Portal says the order doesn’t matter after that. One wiki lists the Beacon dungeon entrances at level 48.

Level and gear expectations

Sources differ a little on numbers:

  • Lower wasteland: one wiki lists named locations at levels 46 to 48. G-Portal says enemies are “mostly level 46-48”.
  • Sky Islands: locations from 48 up to 50. The Ancient Citadel and Mother Flame’s Domicile (the final boss arena) are both 50.
  • PinDrop puts the whole biome at 46 to 50, with a typical enemy at 48.

The level cap is 50, so the islands are at or near cap. Combat XP drops sharply against enemies below your level, so arriving at about level 44 to 46 is a good target. See how to level fast. Keen’s own advice is to “bring your best gear, upgrade it, cook the most efficient food”. Upgrade your gear to the Veilwater tier first, because gear can now go to 55.

Damage types: the Ancient Constructs take extra damage from blunt weapons and ice, and resist poison and lightning, according to one wiki. Shock-wand builds can struggle against them, so carry an ice spell, an ice wand or a hammer. We haven’t tested this against every construct type.

Enemies

Keen’s patch notes say the new faction has 14 enemy types. Guide sites list these:

  • Ancient Constructs: C.R.T.R., G.A.R.D. (Slicer, Dozer and Burner variants), G.T.H.R., G.U.N.R., M.I.N.R., B.L.D.R., S.I.R.N.
  • Fell Black Knight and Fell Sentinel, new Fell units in the Shroud
  • Flaming Scorpions on the lava plains. Kill them for Ember Carapace.
  • Drak’Dal camps in the lower wasteland, which drop the usual Drak Scales, Teeth, Claws and Blood

Bosses

  • Ancient S.P.D.R. Construct: listed at The Ancient Citadel, Worker’s Ward or the Engine Chambers. Drops reported: Ancient S.P.D.R. Construct Eye, Archaic Core, Archaic Shards, Legendary Runes and Moonstone, and sometimes Archaic Essence VII and Gold Ore.
  • Vorgoth (final boss): fought in Mother Flame’s Domicile during “Cinders of the End”. It has two phases, listed as “Champion of the Shroud” and “the Wanderer’s Vessel”. Drops reported: Vorgoth’s Eye, Vorgoth’s Bound Essence, Legendary Runes and Shroud Vessel’s Greatsword.
  • PinDrop also lists a Fell Critter Queen and a Fell Cyclops in the biome’s boss data.

Killing Vorgoth unlocks Flame Level 11. Reported cost: 20 Spark, 10 Celestium Bars, 15 Moonstone, 20 Diamond Dust, 15 Ember Carapace, 1 Vorgoth’s Bound Essence, 1 Vorgoth’s Eye and 18 survivors. Gather the materials while you explore so you can upgrade as soon as the fight is over.

New crops (Bloomheart Fruit, Prickle Pearl, Aurora Beans, Grandleaf Cabbage) only grow in Basalt Farm Soil, made at the Farmer under a roof. Don’t eat Aurora Beans raw, because they cause Food Poisoning. The full list, with older biomes included, is in the materials finder.

Notable locations

  • Lower wasteland: Ancient Gate, Battlegrounds (the lore quest “Hearing Voices”), Research Camp, Darya’s Daycamp, Drak’Dal Outpost and Camp, Celestium Mining Site, Cinder’s Ascent, an Ancient Obelisk. Dungeons listed: Embervale Museum, Engine Chambers, Frontier Research Lab, Grand Planetarium, Hydropower Plant, Library.
  • Sky Islands: Council Chamber, Andromeda’s Eye (the Barber’s “Star Signs” quest), Gardens of Earthly Delights, Manathor’s Plaza, Worker’s Ward, Proto Vessel Bay, The Ancient Citadel, Shroud Heartlands (Shroud lair).
  • The Small Ancient Dungeon reportedly holds the Sky Specter Helmet and the Inner Orrery rings.

Archaic Lockpicks are needed for higher-tier locked doors and chests from this biome on. Keen confirms that, but we haven’t found a confirmed recipe or drop source yet.

Shroud Roots: a count mismatch

Keen’s notes say Cinder’s Cradle adds 12 Shroud Roots. PinDrop’s map data shows 9 on the ground. Some may be on the islands or in dungeons, or one count may be wrong. If you are hunting skill points, don’t stop at 9.
