How to Level Up Fast in Enshrouded 1.0 (Routes to Level 50)

By Poodadoo Editors · October 27, 2026

The fastest way to level in Enshrouded 1.0 is to follow the quests and fight enemies at or above your level, because kill XP is scaled by the level gap. Mine Kindlewastes ore in between. If you host the world, you can also double XP with the world settings. The main-story quests alone are worth tens of thousands of XP, and the cap is now level 50.

Where XP actually comes from

PinDrop pulled these one-time XP pools from the 1.0 game files:

SourceTotal availableBiggest single award
Quests49,825 XP (main story 39,575, side quests 10,250)3,200
Item sets (journal collections)48,925 XP over 126 sets2,200
Location discovery25 to 1,000 per location1,000
Mining4 to 12 per unit, does not scale with level12
CombatNo fixed total, scaled by level gap

Two things follow from that:

  1. Quests and item sets are worth about the same. Most players ignore item sets. They fill in as you collect the listed items, so check the journal for sets that are almost complete, and pick up anything new you walk past. A 2,200 XP set is worth more than most quests.
  2. The Flame is the best-paying quest giver. PinDrop lists 13,650 XP across 18 Flame quests, far more than any survivor. Loraine Crim’s four Cinder’s Cradle quests total 4,550. Push the Flame upgrades as soon as you can.

The kill XP multiplier

Several guides report that combat XP changes by about 10% per level of difference between you and the enemy, with a floor of 0.1x and a cap of 1.9x. The figure appears in pre-1.0 and 1.0 guides alike. Keen hasn’t published it, and we didn’t find it in PinDrop’s 1.0 file data, so treat it as well-supported but unconfirmed.

In practice, an enemy 5 levels below you pays about half its normal XP, and one 9 levels above pays close to double. That’s why farming Springlands stops paying off quickly. Kindlewastes and Veilwater Basin keep enemies close to your level for longer.

Mining XP per unit

These come from the allthings.how 1.0 XP guide. Mining XP doesn’t change with your level, which makes it a steady option at any point:

MaterialXP per unitWhere
Sulfur10Kindlewastes
Tin Ore10Nomad Highlands
Copper Ore9Revelwood
Fossilized Bone7Bone piles, Highlands
Clay4Revelwood cliffs
Stone, Dirt, Rubble, Mycelium0Everywhere

Don’t mine stone or dirt for XP. It costs stamina and gives nothing. Sulfur also drops one unit per swing. The same guide says a single Kindlewastes iron vein gives 3,000 to 6,000 XP depending on your XP settings. You can mine it before your Flame is high enough for the region, because it isn’t in deadly Shroud. To reset the vein, teleport at least 500 m away and reload the world.

Resources and enemies inside a Flame Altar’s radius don’t respawn. Don’t place an altar on a spot you plan to farm.

World settings: the legitimate shortcut

If you host or run a dedicated server, the custom difficulty settings have three separate XP sliders. Server-host documentation gives these ranges (default 1x):

  • Combat XP: 0.25x to 2x
  • Mining XP: 0x to 2x
  • Quest and exploration XP: 0.25x to 2x

On a dedicated server these are experienceCombatFactor, experienceMiningFactor and experienceExplorationQuestsFactor in enshrouded_server.json, and they only apply when the preset is Custom. The ranges come from hosting-provider docs written before 1.0, and we haven’t seen them confirmed for 1.0. In game, go to the world list, choose Edit, then Custom difficulty.

A level 1 to 50 route for 1.0

Levels 1-10 (Springlands). Since 1.0, your first level-up comes from placing your first Flame Altar and your second from freeing the Blacksmith, which alone pays 1,400 XP. The Springlands also have more chests than before. Clear every Shroud Root you find (the first pays 225 quest XP), and kill the Fell Thunderbrute at the Elixir Well (150 XP). You also get 3 skill points from the well.

Levels 10-18 (Revelwood). Mark of Sameth, the Revelwood copper mine, is the standard farm at about level 10 to 13. A full clear pays thousands of XP, and you mine copper at 9 XP per unit while you’re there. 1.0 also added a silver chest in a suspicious rubble pile in the settlement.

Levels 18-30 (Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes). Mine tin in the Highlands Shroud on your way through. Keen added 3 save points in the Highlands Shroud in 1.0, so deep runs are less risky. In Kindlewastes, mine sulfur and the iron vein between quests.

Levels 30-45 (Albaneve Summits, Veilwater Basin). The Albaneve boss was nerfed hard in 1.0, so kill it as soon as you arrive instead of putting it off. One guide recommends Veilwater Basin for levels 41 to 45. Clear the Veilwater quests, which lead into the Flame 10 upgrade.

Levels 46-50 (Cinder’s Cradle). Enemies here are 46 to 50, so you get full or better XP all the way to cap. The six Beacon dungeons, Loraine Crim’s quests and the main story pay large one-time rewards. The route is in the Cinder’s Cradle guide.

Habits that add up

  • Skip nights. Bosses, Shroud Roots and normal enemies respawn every 5 in-game days. Sleeping skips a night in about 30 seconds, and since 1.0 you can fast travel from a bed.
  • Check quest difficulty. Since 1.0, a quest is marked difficult when its area is 2 or more levels above you. Those are the best XP per kill, if you can survive them.
  • Use the loot vacuum. Holding interact picks up all scattered loot nearby, which helps you finish item sets without hunting for each pickup.
  • Spend skill points on clear speed. Leveling is mostly kill speed. A build that clears camps fast levels faster. See best builds for 1.0.

What we couldn’t confirm

  • PinDrop found only five per-level XP entries in the 1.0 files (1,000, then 2,023, 3,046, 4,069 and 5,092). Nobody has published a reliable total XP figure from 1 to 50. We won’t estimate one.
  • The kill multiplier and XP slider ranges are not in Keen’s 1.0 notes.
